A drum liner looks like a simple product, but it holds chemicals. If the bag leaks, reacts with its contents, or fails a seal, the loss is far larger than the cost of the bag. Whether you plan to produce drum liner bags or buy them, three questions decide the outcome: which film suits the contents, what the bag making machine must do well, and who carries the compliance responsibility. This guide takes them in that order.
A drum liner sits inside a drum or pail and holds the product, so the container itself stays clean. That protects the contents, makes emptying and cleaning easier, and lets the outer container be reused. Typical contents include chemical raw materials, coatings, resins, and food-grade or pharmaceutical intermediates. Each has different demands on the film.
| Material | Typical Role in a Liner |
| PE (including pure PE) | General-purpose base layer with good chemical resistance; heat-sealable and easier to recycle as a single material |
| PA | Adds puncture resistance and barrier performance |
| EVOH | Oxygen barrier for contents that degrade on contact with air |
| Aluminum foil laminate | Moisture and light barrier |
Choose the structure starting from the contents, then decide thickness and layer count. Price should be the last filter, not the first. Mingli's industrial bag making machines support PE, PA, EVOH, aluminum foil laminates, and other heat-sealable films, and most models also handle single-material pure PE.

Consistent Sealing on Pure PESeal quality is the main leak risk. The ML-600 3D liner bag machine uses pulse heat sealing with no preheating, rated at 150°C for 0.85 seconds followed by 60°C cooling for 1 second, which suits pure PE film. |

Stable Film HandlingMulti-layer film is sensitive to tension. Servo-driven unwinding with ultrasonic sensing and automatic tension control keeps tension steady, and a vacuum suction port holds the film flat to limit bubbles and wrinkles. |

Repeatable Settings Across OrdersRecipe-based production stores sealing temperature, film tension, bag length, and module position, up to 10,000 recipes, with one-touch format switching and no mechanical adjustment. That makes it easier to keep quality consistent when liner sizes change between orders. |

A Control System Operators Can UseThe line runs on a Panasonic GM1 programmable controller and can be operated from an iPad with split-screen control from any position on the machine, so operators are not tied to one fixed panel. |
A bag making machine does not make a liner compliant by itself. Compliance depends on the film used, the finished bag, and, for hazardous goods, the liner combined with its outer drum. Points to check:
Dangerous goods transport: a liner is an inner packaging, and UN performance testing is generally carried out on the complete packaging, outer drum plus liner. Changing the liner may mean retesting.
Food contact: food-grade liners need materials that meet the food-contact rules of the target market.
Pharmaceutical use: expect added requirements for production environment and cleanliness.
Static control: contents such as flammable powders or solvents may call for anti-static film.
Rules differ by market and product, so confirm requirements with the relevant regulator or a testing laboratory before committing to a material or bag design.

For how to read the numbers on a quote, see our guide to comparing bag making machine specs. If your liner size is non-standard, our article on OEM vs standard machines explains when customization makes sense.
Mingli's ML-600 3D liner bag machine produces stacking barrel liners and other 3D liner bags, on film up to 650mm wide with bags up to 600mm wide, which suits small-to-medium format liners. Larger formats are covered elsewhere in the industrial range, including IBC, FIBC, and container liner machines. See our articles on container liner bags and FIBC flat liner bags for those formats.
